SATURDAY, 29 NOVEMBER: A film showing of Joyeux Noël. World War One had been raging for several months but soldiers stepped out of their trenches, shook hands and agreed to a truce so their dead could be buried.

The soldiers also used that truce to chat with one another and, some claim, even play a football match, all in the spirit of Christmas. This truce is often seen as a symbolic moment of peace and humanity amidst one of the most violent events of human history. Join Lifelong Learning for their last event for the year from 2.30pm to 5.30pm at St Olav Church. Cost is R100 per person. Booking is essential.
