Hijackers hit woman with a brick

An off duty Montclair policeman who witnessed the hijacking take place fired shots at the hijackers.

A woman and her aunt were hijacked on Himalayas Road on Tuesday 21, October at about 2.45pm.
Miss Singh stopped her VW Golf at a traffic light when she was approached by four men.

The hijackers, armed with bricks, pulled both women out of the car. One of the hijackers hit Miss Singh’s aunt with a brick on her arm in a bid to take her handbag. An off duty Montclair policeman who witnessed the hijacking take place fired shots at the hijackers who fled with the VW Golf. “It was a shock. At that moment you don’t know what to do. I couldn’t drive away because I was at a red traffic light. The hijackers didn’t even worry that we were women,” said Singh. The VW Golf was recovered at about 5pm on Tuesday by Sgt Shaun McFall and Const Charlie Raynolds of the provincial vehicle task team.

In another incident, a man was hijacked of his silver-grey Toyota Etios while dropping off his friend in Roland Road, Montclair on Saturday, 18 October.
At about 4.30pm the man stopped at his friend’s home when three men approached him. One of the hijackers held him at gunpoint and they fled with the Toyota.
