School partners with police for pupil’s safety

Grosvenor Boys High School goes a little further to keep pupils safe.

RANDOM searches and crime awareness boards are part of the programme at Grosvenor Boys High School as they partner with Brighton Beach SAP to ensure the safety and education of pupils.

School principal, Carel De Jager has taken the government initiative of stopping violent crimes in schools much further, with the instalment of crime awareness boards, sponsored by Park Patrol Security, within and around the school. These serve as graphic reminders to pupils that weapons, alcohol and banned substances are not allowed on school premises.

Added to this, the school conducts random searches of bags, classrooms, toilets and sport grounds and when suspected of being in possession of banned items, pupils too. Brighton Beach SAP has offered its services through foot patrols and raids at the school when asked to further ensure safety.

Furthermore, Brighton Beach SAP communications officer, Captain Le Roux periodically speaks to the pupils about changes in the law applicable to children and warns them about the repercussions of their actions.

“We are hopeful these visual crime alert boards, including the efforts by the staff and police will make us achieve our ultimate goal of reducing crime levels, together with creating a place of safety for all pupils and staff to perform their duties, so we may reach the level of education that the school strives to meet for its pupils. Our further aim is to strive towards a positive influence and raise awareness to our pupils, parents and staff about the dangers of social crimes and the negative impact of these crimes, not only in the community but more so the institution they are attending,” said De Jager.
