PNB men’s fours draws a blank for Wanderers

Last Friday’s R1,100 snowball was not won as Quinton “Smiler” Wilesmith was not present when his number was drawn.

ON SUNDAY, 5 October was the start of the district men’s and women’s fours, playing three matches on a round-robin basis.

Wanderers Bowling Club had six men’s teams entered and no women’s team. Of those six teams, three of them finished with the same points as the leaders of the section, but lost on shot difference. Bad luck to Roy Funnell, Dennis Gericke and Richard Hendicott and their team mates. Terrance McGlynn’s team finished second in their section. Thus was the news from the rugby field better than the news from the bowling greens this week.

No club competitions were played, mainly because of the Moths nationals taking place at the same time. The women’s section is waiting for Jo-Anne Jordaan to heal from her recent surgery before they can get the finals of the trips played – this being the only outstanding event on their calendar. Margaret Kitchenbrand, women’s competition secretary, would like to express her gratitude to the women for their co-operation and enthusiasm throughout the season.

Last Friday’s R1,100 snowball was not won as Quinton ‘Smiler’ Wilesmith was not present when his number was drawn.
The various meat pack winners were: Mutton pack Troy Simpkins, pork roast Clive Symons, rump steak Laura Dupouy, chicken pack Patti Redman, pork ribs Daniel Nel, chicken John Thomassen.

This coming Friday, after the raffle and snowball of R1,200, you can listen/dance to the popular sounds of DJ Westroy till late.

On Sunday, 12, October after breakfast trips, one of our favourite bands – ‘The Locals’ (ex-‘Bent Penny’) will be playing between noon and 4pm. Go and join the fun and dance at lunchtime/afternoon and enjoy a meal from the kitchen.
