R300,000 donation to improve school technology

Technical training manager at NMI-DSM, Leon Meyer looks forward to giving pupils an opportunity to learn.

Clairwood Secondary School has received a donation which will help pupils on their way to success in the fields of technology.
NMI-DSM, which sells commercial vehicles in Pinetown, donated R300, 000 the to better equip the school’s mechanical workshop. Clairwood Secondary School staff received the donation at a hand-over on Thursday, 4 September.

Clairwood Secondary School deputy principal, Mr Naidoo is excited about the donation and prospects for pupils’ future. “Their commitment to equip the mechanical workshops will assist in delivering quality technical education at our school,” said Naidoo.
The school hopes this donation will form a lasting partnership with NMI-DSM. Technical training manager at NMI-DSM, Leon Meyer looks forward to giving pupils an opportunity to learn. “We feel that many pupils don’t know what is out there,” said Meyer. The donation will form as a feeder system for pupils to gain apprenticeships at NMI-DSM or other similar organisations. “We see this as part of our social responsibility to help previously disadvantaged schools,” he said.

Three workshops at the school have been completely refurbished and another four workshops are being upgraded.
Over the next three years NMI-DSM will monitor the progress of pupils who may be placed in apprenticeships in the pupils’ chosen technical, mechanical or motor mechanic field. Grade 12 pupil at Clairwood Secondary, Jefrey Ncayiyana is a student interested in following a career in motor mechanics. “I’m excited about the donation to our school. It will be great to add to the machinery at our school,” said Ncayiyana.
