Ritchie’s trio of men dominate Wentworth BC casual bowls

WENTWORTH Bowling Club had a quiet week.

In the family and friends fun bowls played on Wednesday, 13 August, the prize went to Kurt Spack and Bernadette Poole, while the sportsman’s prize was taken by Dirk Venter and Storm and the 60/40 board went to Bernadette Poole and Margaret Walters.

In the men’s Friday casual bowls played on 15 August, first prize was taken by Alan Ritchie, Eric Miller and Shaun Sutherland with + 15. Second prize went to Deon Els, Brian Deats and Dave Carroll with +9. Alex Fisher, Andy Cloete and Smiler Wilesmith took the sportsman prize. The pork raffle was won by Graham Bransby and Maria Cavanagh won the beef. The first 60/40 board was won by John Somerville and Joe McNamara, the second board went to Ina Davies and Graham Bransby.

Roley Taylor pairs was played over the weekend, where Spider Williams and Ina Davies won their first round and lovely couple Johnny and Eilleen du Plessis won their first round. Congrats to Johnny and Eilleen du Plessis who won their second round also and secured themselves a place in the final.

All games must be played by Monday, 15 September.

Thoughts and prayers are with Val Herbert who is still in hospital, and a speedy recovery is wished to Rodney Smith who had a knee replacement.

There is a potjiekos competition on 30 August, with a prize for the best potjie and a prize for the best dressed couple. Entry fee is R50 for the potjiekos competition and R10 for a bowls game. Go and enjoy the day with your family.

On Wednesday, 20 August, there is family and friends fun bowls at 3pm. All new bowlers are welcome. Take flat sole shoes. Bowls are available.

On Friday, 22 August, there is men’s casual bowls at 9am.

The kitchen is open daily from Tuesdays until Sundays from 8am until 6pm. Breakfast, bar lunches and Sunday lunches are served. On Tuesdays at 12.30pm pensioners can enjoy scones with strawberry jam and cream will be served with tea. Call Ina Davies on 082-768-4644. Big screen TV is available for all the sports fanatics.
