Hijackers target women in Mobeni, Montclair

Alarming number of hijacking in Montclair for the month of March.

A woman sustained head injuries when she tried to fend off attackers who stole her vehicle in South Coast Road, Mobeni on Tuesday, 1 April.

The woman was waiting at a robot when she was approached by two armed men. One of them pointed a gun at her, reached into the vehicle and took her car keys. She screamed for help and tried to fight off the men, but no-one came to her aid. She was assaulted with the gun and removed from the vehicle. The men fled in the direction of Chatsworth. She was taken to hospital for treatment.

Two days later on Thursday, 3 April, two armed men made off with a VW Polo from the circle in Alamein Road, Woodlands. Two women were asking for directions to Pinetown when two armed men came from behind the vehicle and forced them out of the car. They drove off in the car in the direction of Clairwood.

An alarming number of cases of hijackings and theft of motor vehicles were reported within the Montclair SAP’s policing area. There were 14 hijackings and six thefts of motor vehicles recorded during the month of March. Montclair SAP warns motorists to take heed and be cautious of their environment at all times. Motorists are urged to install tracking systems on their vehicles as this increases the chance of recovery. Car windows should be closed when driving around. Vehicle owners are also advised to invest in foot pedal and gear locks.
