Durban to host global march to fight canned hunting

NPC, Wild and Free SA hosts the Durban leg of the Global March for Lions on Saturday, 15 March.

The march is in support of Western Cape based non-profit wildlife charity, Campaign against Canned Hunting (Cach).

The main aim of the march is to highlight the plight of lions involved in canned hunting. It’s emphasis is on creating public awareness for current failures in wildlife legislation which has allowed the lion to be traded as common livestock.

Other marches will take place in Johannesburg, Pretoria, Cape Town, Nelspruit, Ceres and Grahamstown. Some of the international marches will take place in New York, Kampala, Melbourne, Los Angeles and Vancouver.

Christine Jordaan, the woman behind the initiative, will lead the march along the Durban beach front’s promenade with other local celebrities, personalities and conservationists. Filming the event is Michael Almendro of the documentary ‘Tigers and Tutus’.

If you would like to volunteer or make a sponsorship towards the event, call Margot Stewart on 084-499-5352 or email her at rhinosos@hotmail.com. You can also email Mariana Fernandes at marianajfe@hotmail.com or Christine Jordaan at cmjordaan03@gmail.com.
