Infinity whale sculpture erected at Sodurba offices

The Sodurba offices display a new look with the erection of the Infinity whale sculpture depicting The Bluff’s rich marine history.

SODURBA unveiled its new whale art installation that was erected at its office on Tara Road on September 27.

The whale sculpture, named Infinity, was designed by Mike McFadyean and Umcebo Design and was sponsored by Fabricon Holdings. It aims to encourage environmental awareness and advocate for the conservation of whales.

The sculpture of Infinity, which stands five metres tall, depicts a whale breaching the surface of the ocean in a classic tail-up pose. Melissa Lee, marketing consultant at Sodurba, said Infinity is a permanent landmark to remind us of our need to protect our oceans and marine ecosystems.

Commissioned by Sodurba, McFadyean did the conceptualisation of the artwork, including the renders and a short animation accompanying the project. “This whale sculpture is a strong reminder of how beautiful marine life is and just how important it is to take care of our oceans,” said McFadyean.

Infinity will also be used for educational purposes as plans to place informative plaques and interactive displays around it are in motion. These tools will provide insight into how crucial whales are in marine ecosystems and what threats they face due to pollution, climate change and overfishing.

Sodurba chairperson Helga du Preez spoke proudly of the installation and said it is a significant achievement for our community. “Besides the steadfast support from our local stakeholders, it also symbolises The Bluff Whale Heritage area, something we are so proud to hold,” said du Preez.
