Violent home invasion: Bluff family tied up, home ransacked

Tied up and held at knife-point and gunpoint, the Scholtz family are appealing to the community for assistance to recover their stolen vehicles and make ends meet.

A TERRIFYING home invasion took place at 01:30 on Beaumont Road, The Bluff, where the Scholtz family was violently tied up and robbed by armed assailants on September 4. The incident occurred when three men broke into the residence while a fourth waited in a getaway vehicle.

According to Caz Scholtz, one of the victims, the attackers entered the home wielding a gun and knives, subjecting the family to a harrowing ordeal.

The intruders taped the mouths, hands and legs of the Scholtz family, leaving them defenceless as they ransacked the house. Among the stolen items were mobile phones, televisions, wallets, cash, laptops car amplifiers, tools, jewellery and various clothing and personal items.

The attackers made off with two vehicles, a metallic blue VW Tiguan with registration NPN 61663 and a silver Nissan Magnite with registration ND 618981. They also attempted to steal a third vehicle, a Peugeot, but it stalled at the bottom of the driveway, prompting the thieves to abandon it while taking the keys. Additionally, Caz said the keys to a friend’s black Corsa were taken, and items were stolen from the vehicle.

Caz urgently posted on social media for the community to be on the lookout for the two vehicles that were stolen, which belonged to him and his sister.

He described the distressing ordeal the family endured.

“We are all OK – very shaken up with a couple of aches and pains from being tossed and turned,” he said in a post on Facebook.

The Scholtz family has been left in a dire financial situation following the invasion, as the intruders cleared their bank accounts and took funds intended for essential expenses. With no phones or transport, the family is struggling to make ends meet. Caz Scholtz has appealed to the community for assistance, requesting donations or food parcels to help them recover from this traumatic event.
