Hijacks spike in Montlands

There has been a major spike in hijacking incidents in the Montclair and Woodlands area, with over 10 cases reported in under two weeks.

Two groups of men committed a double hijacking in Roland Road, Montclair on Thursday, 28 November. In the first incident, six men, one of whom was armed with a gun, forced a man out of his vehicle and took off with his vehicle. They fled in the direction of Montclair Road.

About five minutes later, three armed men hijacked a man and woman at the same place. The men approached the driver while pointing a gun at him and forced the couple out of their vehicle. The men fled in an unknown direction, taking with them the couple’s three cellphones and car.

Two vehicles were stolen on Saturday, 30 November. The first vehicle was taken from a man in Norwich Crescent, Woodlands. He was leaving his garage after parking when he was approached by two men. They took his wrist watch and car keys and fled.

On the same day, a woman who was sitting in her car with a friend, was approached by two armed men. They were forced out of the vehicle and made to hand over their cellphones. The men took off in the vehicle, which was later recovered in Umlazi.

Lt Leopold Jojozi of Montclair SAP said investigations are continuing and arrests are imminent.
