Primary school welcomes sanitary pad donation

What started with a way to help a neighbour, Save the Dignity of Our Girls in School has grown to assist local schools in ensuring each girl has access to female hygiene products.

IN a heartwarming effort to meet a vital need, Save the Dignity of Our Girls in School made a generous donation of sanitary pads to Alipore Primary School on July 24.

The donation drive, led by Roshni Naicker, founder of the organisation, saw the participation of Miss Teenager Universal, Lavanya Govender. Together, Roshni and Lavanya personally distributed sanitary pads to the female learners. This essential provision ensures that young girls do not miss school due to a lack of menstrual hygiene products.

Pranitha Singh, the head of department at Alipore Primary, expressed deep gratitude for the donation, emphasising the ongoing need for sanitary pads at the school.

Lavanya also took the opportunity to talk to the girls about female hygiene. Her presence and encouraging words offered the learners valuable information and boosted their confidence.

Roshni shared, “I began distributing in February 2021 when my tenant’s niece came home from school because she lacked this basic item. Since then, I’ve noticed that more and more girls face the same issue.”

This initiative by Save the Dignity of Our Girls in School highlights the continuous efforts to support the education and well-being of young girls.
