Yellowwood Park Majorettes flourish at national championships

The Yellowwood Park Majorettes marched to gold achievement in mini baton, pom pom, mace and non-prop group in the national championship in Johannesburg.

The Yellowwood Park Majorettes have returned home triumphant from the Federation of Dance Drill, Cheerleading and Majorette Sport South Africa National Championships (FDDCMSA), held in Johannesburg from June 28 to July 3.

Competing in various categories, the team showcased their talent and dedication, bringing home several top honors. Cate d’Offay, one of the coaches, reflected on the team’s performance and the spirit of the event.

“The national championship proved to be tough for our girls, but they pushed through and held their school flag up high. We are truly proud of them and their achievements,” she said.

The majorettes competed in a range of events, including mini mace, mini baton, flag group, non-prop group, baton group, mace group, pom group, small drill, and large drill. Their hard work and determination paid off, as they secured numerous accolades. They placed first in mini baton, mace group, pom group, and non-prop group. The team achieved third place in mini mace, second place in flag group, overall second place in small drill, and overall third place in large drill. Additionally, the baton group earned a gold achievement.

D’Offay emphasised the positive atmosphere of the event, noting that “The national championships were a friendly, loving, and athlete-driven week. Each team supports each other. Every athlete enjoyed their time as they were able to enjoy their sport and make friends, as well as memories. It was a very healthy competitive environment.”
