Durban Warriors thrash eThekwini City FC

Soccer teams battled it out in a league match at the Wentworth sports grounds.

THE home-ground advantage did not work out for the Wentworth-based soccer team, eThekwini City FC, when they lost 1–0 to the Durban Warriors FC on February 24.

The two teams locked horns at the Wentworth sports grounds on Saturday (February 24) in one of the league’s games ahead of the season starting next month. The first half ended in 0–0 with both teams missing opportunities to score goals. The second half saw Aphiwe Nxumalo for Durban Warriors FC scoring a goal for the team.

Coach for eThekwini City FC Robert Hoffman was not impressed with the team’s performance.

“We missed many opportunities that could have been used against our opponent. I think it is time we go back to the drawing board and see where we can improve. We lost the game that we should have won,” said Hoffman.

Durban Warriors remain on top of the log after earning more points at the recent game. The club’s coach Andile Cele was ecstatic over the team’s electrifying performance.

“I am quite impressed with the boys’ performance and hope they will continue scoring more goals in our next games. It wasn’t an easy game as our opponent was attacking from all angles. Fortunately, our line of defence was stronger, and we managed to defeat them,” said Cele.
