According to the City statement, the auditor general’s office presented the opinion during the full council sitting on January 31, acknowledging the credibility and reliability of the financial statements submitted by the City.

Commenting on the report, eThekwini mayor Councillor Mxolisi Kaunda said, “While recognising the report’s affirmation of the City’s excellent financial management and viability, we are committed to continuous improvement. Ongoing reviews of controls are underway, and the audit turnaround strategy is being rigorously implemented to rectify issues highlighted by the Auditor-General, including non-revenue water loss, with the goal of achieving a clean audit in the medium term.”

According to the audit report, the City recorded an overall rate of 77.03% of the key performance indicators for 2022/23, showing improvement from 70.73% in the previous year.
