Bluff bowlers prepare for upcoming SA Inter-District Tournament

A bowling pair from Wentworth Bowling Club need financial assistance to compete in an inter-district tournament in the Western Cape.

WENTWORTH bowling club members, Troy Garland and Luvuyo Ndava, recently qualified to represent Port Natal’s B-side at the South African Inter-District in George, Western Cape, in March.

Garland has been a dedicated member of the club for the past seven years. He steadily established himself as a rising star in the bowling world. Having qualified for the president’s side last year, Garland has swiftly ascended the ranks to secure a spot on the B-side. Spending his younger days watching his grandparents play bowls inspired him to try it out for himself on one fateful day.

“When I was younger, my cousin and I had come with my grandparents to the club. We decided to play a game and ended up not liking it, but after watching my grandparents play repeatedly, we became hooked on the sport.”

In preparation for the upcoming tournament, Garland unveiled an unconventional approach to his success – he doesn’t practise.

“I have never practised before any tournament or big game, and I don’t plan on starting now. I try to remain calm and chilled at all times. I would only play if it’s a competition or have a roll for fun, but I would never come down to practise. My pre-match ritual, which I tend to do just before the tournament starts, is just listening to all different music.”

Luvuyo Ndava, a new member of the club, has, alongside Garland, qualified to represent the club at the South African Inter-District Tournament. The talented Bluff duo are asking the community for assistance in helping to raise funds for the upcoming tournament.

To donate, contact Troy Garland on 062 380 9351 or Luvuyo Ndava on 073 922 2205.
