JUST IN: Body spotted floating on water at Cuttings Beach

Due to unfavourable weather conditions currently, the body cannot be retrieved at this time.

A BODY has been spotted floating on the water at Cuttings Beach and is yet to be recovered.

Dhevan Govindasamy, spokesperson of PT Alarms Tactical Unit, said that SAPS Sea Rescue, Metro Sea Rescue, members of the Wentworth and Isipingo SAPS and PT Tactical Units are all at the scene to recover the unidentified body.

Govindasamy said that due to the heavy rainfall and tides, they are no longer able to identify the location of the body. “We believe the body is submerged under either a sand bed or rock, under the nearby bridge canal,” added Govindasamy.

According to a PT Alarms Tactical Unit statement, a community member spotted the body floating by the river mouth between Merebank and The Bluff.

“The community member immediately called for assistance,” said PT Alarms.

In another unrelated incident, two bodies were found washed up between Reunion and Cuttings Beach last Wednesday, (January 10).
