Tips on how to plan a Springbok weekend

Are you ready for the Rugby World Cup final? Here are tips on how to plan the ultimate Springbok weekend.

MOST likely, this Saturday will be spent with friends and family, all geared up to watch the rugby. If you are hosting and watching at home, there are some tips you may need to make sure that you have everything you need.

Republic PR’s Taryn Paterson said the last two Springbok World Cup games have been nail-biters, right to the last whistle.

“One point is all it took for us to progress through from the quarter-finals to the semi-finals and then again from the semi-finals to the finals. One point. Many South Africans were left breathless and voiceless with their hearts beating way too fast. But now that we know what could happen in a game, let’s make sure we have this rugby weekend sorted and planned so the game is the only unknown,” she said.

Start by splitting this event into two halves: pre-match and during the match. Pre-match is everything that needs to be strategised and played out before you take the bench:

• First things first, clean that braai. Cleaning your braai in advance also allows you more time to plan your fantasy rugby team.

• If you are hosting, plan the menu, and if everyone is bringing – even better. When delegating what to bring to your guests, be sure to do it in advance. This gives you and your guests time to organise.

• A nine o’clock kick-off may be a little late for some, and if you are starting off the festivities early, a round of coffee before the start of the match may be in order.

Once the pre-match is over and done with, take a seat and watch the game:

• When people are nervous, they snack. Make sure you have all your South African favourites to keep everyone going throughout the game. Another round of coffee might not be a bad idea, as well.

If the game has you perspiring more than the players, a quick application of anti-perspirant roll-on before the game may be needed.

Once the final whistle has blown, a bottle of wine is suitable for all occasions, and results.

“This weekend is going to be one for the books, and although we don’t know the final result yet, South Africans everywhere are going to be wearing their green-and-gold with pride,” added Paterson.
