Tamia live in Durban

Touring the country with a three-city tour, Tamia, the multi-Grammy-nominated international artist, will be performing live at the Durban ICC Arena on Friday, July 7. No stranger to South Africa, the much-adored, super-talented live performer will return to the country for the fourth time over the past decade. The Canadian-born R&B singer/songwriter has released multiple albums and has collaborated with several prominent international musical icons. Natal Zoological Gardens

On Friday, July 7, from 15:00 to 19:30, the Natal Zoological Gardens will be hosting a family-friendly movie night which also includes a walk around the zoo and fun and games in the picnic area. Come this Saturday, July 8, the Queensburgh BMX Club will be holding a free coaching session with BMX professionals. The free coaching session runs from 10:00 to 12 noon and will be led by BMX professionals Tyler Klumper and Christopher Axford, who will be there to guide and support riders of all levels, from beginners to experienced. Animal Anti-Cruelty League

The Animal Anti-Cruelty League (AACL) fair will be hosted on Saturday, July 8 from 09:00 to 13:00 at Hey Halfway Hillcrest (opposite Busamed Hospital). There will be an assortment of stalls, a children’s section with games as well as a doggie section – with games, competitions and prizes. Go through to support this good cause, raise some money for the rescues, meet some of the dogs that are up for adoption and just have a good day. Inchanga Railway Station

An 85-year-old steam engine is eagerly waiting for passengers to get on board this July school holidays for a trip along the Valley of 1000 Hills. Trains depart on July 8 and 9 at 9:00, 11:30 and 14:00. The trip, roughly one hour and 15 minutes, departs from Inchanga Railway Station, meandering along the rolling hills of Natal, through one of the oldest operating tunnels in South Africa, with the sights of the Valley of 1000 Hills in the distance, before turning around at Botha’s Hill for the return to Inchanga.

Experience the scenic route while raising funds to fix the railway which was affected by the April 2022 floods. You may take cash with you or use Zapper as there are no card facilities or ATMs. Also, you need to arrive half an hour before departure to collect your tickets. Ticket prices for the return train trip are R170 for adults and R110 for pensioners and children between the ages of two and 12. For more information and booking, visit www.umgenisteamrailway.com.

Durban Caledonian Society – Piobaireachd Competition and Federation Chief’s Lunch

Durban Caledonian Society have taken the opportunity to combine the official visit with the annual KwaZulu-Natal Scottish Gathering. The visit will commence with a welcoming reception at the Durban Club on Victoria Embankment, on the evening of Friday, July 7 at 16:30. The Piobaireachd Competition, forming part of the KZN Scottish Gathering, will be held, and there will be a finger supper. Piobaireachd is the classical music of the Highland bagpipes. This event is open to the public at a cost of R40 per person.

Furthermore, the society will hold a Federation Chief’s Lunch at the Berea Bowling Club this Sunday, July 9 at 11:30 for 12:00. The lunch will include a three-course meal, a Celtic singer and a pipe band performance. The lunch is open to the public at a cost of R80 per person.
