Team aims to create future conservationists

The junior conservancy will focus on educating the younger generation about environmental conservation and will include various activities such as tree planting, recycling, and clean-up events.

TO spark young minds to become more involved in preserving nature and taking care of the environment, the Yellowwood Conservancy is launching a Junior Conservancy.
Aimed at getting the younger generation involved in making a positive impact on nature conservation, the junior conservancy will garner the support of children from the community in fun-filled and engaging activities and educational programmes.

Chairperson of the Yellowwood Conservancy, Gavin Hegter, said the junior group will be coordinated by Lana Bartholomew.
“The junior conservancy will focus on educating the younger generation about environmental conservation. We will include various activities such as tree planting, recycling, and clean-up events, which learners and children from the community can get involved in. We will also visit schools and give presentations on the importance of preserving the environment.

“We encourage schools to contact us so that they can get involved in our activities. The invitation is open to all schools in the Montclair and surrounding areas to join us. Schools from outside of our area are also welcomed to join,” said Bartholomew.

Hegter said the start of a junior conservancy will create many young environmentalists who will contribute to promoting nature conservation to the future generations.
“With the help of the community and schools, the junior conservancy will start to flourish. Children need to be taught about the importance of preserving the natural world.

“We want to inspire young people to take action and protect the environment. We have a trophy donated by NPC InterCement, which will be an annual junior conservancy trophy that will go to the school that creates the most positive impact with their conservation initiatives throughout the year.

“We are proud to begin this exciting journey and look forward to the positive impact the teams will create in our environment,” Hegter added.
