Frustrated residents join march highlighting ongoing sewage issues

Ward 64 councillor Gavin Hegter says there will be a meeting held on March 25 to discuss how they're going to hold the Municipality accountable for all infrastructure issues.

WARD 64 councillor, Gavin Hegter, joined residents and a host of other ward councilors to march to the Umbilo Wastewater Treatments Works against the municipality’s failure to fix the collapsing and damaged infrastructure.

“As the chairperson of the DA sewage task team, I was invited to attend. After the community living in the areas around the Umbilo wastewater treatment plant and along the Umbilo River, expressed their frustration at the ongoing sewage issue the DA in the Tex Collins West Durban constituency arranged the protest march to the treatment plant.

“We were pleased to note that the march was well attended by the residents. Communities across the city are standing up to voice their anger at the total collapse of our infrastructure and the lack of basic service delivery,” added Hegter.

A public meeting will be held at the Montclair Recreational Hall at 15:00 on March 25, where plans on how to hold the city accountable for the collapse of sewage and infrastructure will be heard. Residents are invited to attend.
