New committee to be elected for the Bluff Ratepayers Association

The election will see new faces represent ratepayers on a voluntary basis.

Those interested in standing as committee members at the Bluff Ratepayers Association (BRA) are urged to attend the meeting which will be held at St Gerards in Sormany Road on February 23 at 18:30. In terms of the BRA’s constitution, 14 day’s notice is required for a special public meeting.

The convener of the meeting, Richard Hawksworth, will call for nominations and seconders for the election of chairperson, vice-chairperson, secretary and two additional members to form the executive committee.

Past chairperson, Ivor Aylward and vice-chairperson, Duncan Du Bois, have indicated they are retiring from the BRA and are not available for consideration.

In terms of the BRA’s constitution, no fees or funding is involved in its operation. Participation is purely voluntary.

As grass roots structures, ratepayer bodies play a parochial role in identifying and facilitating the address of ward issues. In that respect they may complement the roles played by ward committees and councillors.
