Monday, February 13
First meeting of South African Association of Retired Persons

THE first SAARP (South African Association of Retired Persons) meeting for the year will be held at Amanzimtoti Bowling Club on February 13 at 09:30 for 10:00. There will be an entrance fee of R10 which includes refreshments. Wear a splash of red for Valentine’s. The club’s first outing for the year is at the Ammazulu African Palace in Kloof which will be in March at R100 per person. Bookings for the outing are to be made at the SAARP meeting. Sunday, February 19
Braai for British South African Police members

A braai will be held for British South African Police members on February 19 at the Mills Bomb Shellhole in Warner Beach. The braai will start at 11:00. Take along your own meat, plates and cutlery. Salads and rolls will be provided. The entrance fee is R20, and a donation for the raffle is welcome. For more information, contact Marie Bowker on 079 386 4185.

Blood Drive

RE/MAX Toti will be hosting a blood drive along with SANBS on February 24, starting at 10:00. The community is encouraged to support the blood drive in aid of a worthy cause.

Saturday, February 25
Mini Flea Market Fundraiser

Merewent Cheshire Home urges the community to support their Mini Flea Market Fundraiser set to take place at the home, situated at the corner of Eksteen and Tifflin roads in Wentworth on February 25, starting at 09:00 till late. Some of the activities on the day will include a beer and tea garden; a DJ and other entertainment; as well as a variety of stalls offering food, clothing, toys, cutlery and crockery and new and second-hand appliances and furniture. Winnie Mkhize, the manager of the home, said proceeds from the fundraiser will assist in improving the lives of people with disabilities living at the home. Saturday, March 4
First jumble / white elephant sale of the year

The Kingsburgh Lions Club will be hosting their first jumble / white elephant sale of the year, on March 4 from 07:00 to 10:00 at St. Mary’s Church in Warner Beach. Anyone can attend. They will be selling second-hand clothing, white elephant and books and videos at very reasonable prices. All funds raised are put to good use in their various community projects. Toti Vibe Market

VISIT another Sunday fun-day Toti Vibe Market taking place at the Amanzimtoti Civic Centre on March 5, from 10:00 to 15:00.

The day promises to be filled with fun for the whole family, with over 75 stalls selling various handmade items, jewellery, baked goods, arts and crafts, toys, clothing, crystals, a variety of food and drinks and much more. There will also be a lucky draw prize, live entertainment, activities for the children and more. The market is pet-friendly. Parking and entry are free. Saturday, February 11 – Sunday, February 12
Anniversary commemorations of the late Archbishop Hurley

The public is invited to grace the anniversary commemorations of the late Archbishop Hurley, which will take place this weekend, starting with a Saturday afternoon opera and organ music recital at Emmanuel Cathedral at 14:00.

The exceptional musical event has been created with organist AJ Bethke playing the recently restored cathedral organ and being accompanied by opera singer Nozuko Teto. No admission will be charged, but a collection will be taken towards the cathedral’s fundraising project.

A stakeholders meeting will follow at the Denis Hurley Centre at 15:00 and then a memorial mass honouring Archbishop Hurley in the cathedral at 17:00. On Sunday, February 12, there will be memorial masses with Bishop Neil Frank OMI, honouring Hurley at 07:45 and 10:00 in the cathedral. For more information, call the centre on 031 301 2240.

 

Saturday, February 18 – Sunday, February 19
One Love Music Festival

One Love Music Festival held in 2020.

The KwaZulu-Natal Rasta Business Foundation invites its patrons to partake in its One Love Music Festival taking place on February 18 and 19 at Burman Bush in Morningside. The event will start at 12:00 on the 18th and end late on the 19th. The entrance fee is R80. The foundation was established in 2010 and registered as an NPC in 2019, with an aim to formalise and address social ills by being proactive and becoming a mouthpiece for informal traders (vendors).

According to the event organiser, the festival will give local street vendors and community members an opportunity to promote and sell their products.

 

Sunday, March 5
Andrew Warburton and Christopher Cockburn in Concert

The Friends of Music presents Andrew Warburton and Christopher Cockburn in Concert at Durban Jewish Centre, KE Masinga Road on March 5. The concert will start at 15:00, and tickets will be available at the door and will cost R120 for members, while non-members will pay R140 each.

KZN’s eminent musical doctors, Warburton and Cockburn, play masterpieces for four hands at one piano (duets) by Mozart, Schubert and Ravel. Both artists need no introduction to KZN classic audiences.
