Health nuts and sweet tooths can both enjoy this chocolate-spread recipe bursting with chocolatey goodness and nutritional value.

CALLING all chocoholics – today is World Nutella Day – a day to celebrate the chocolate spread enjoyed around the globe.

According to the Nutella® website, World Nutella Day was established on February 5, 2007, by Sara Rosso, an American blogger and a Nutella® lover.

The day is celebrated as fans share recipes and overall appreciation for the chocolate spread.

There are plenty of recipes for chickpea chocolate spread or ‘chickpea hummus’ online. The basic recipe includes chickpeas, chocolate chips, and a sweetener – either sugar, maple syrup, honey, dates or in some cases, banana.

Some recipes recommend roasting the chickpeas for 30 mins at 200 degrees Celsius. Others recommend using the chickpeas straight from the tin and adding coconut oil or olive oil to the mix.

Here is a recipe from the Epic Mint Leaves YouTube channel, a vegan recipe page with more than 2 100 followers.
