Update on water shortage: Cable excavation underway

It is estimated that electricity supply should be restored by the afternoon, which will enable the reservoir pumps to operate again.

WARD 64 councillor Gavin Hegter was pleased to announce that the team working to repair the damaged feeder cable affecting the Woodlands Reservoir pumps has begun excavating the cable.

Hegter said it was estimated that electricity supply should be restored by the afternoon.

He encouraged residents who may be passing by Balfour Road, where the repair is being conducted, to drop off a cool refreshment for municipal workers excavating the cable in the blistering heat.

Residents from Woodlands, Yellowwood Park, Montclair and The Bluff are affected by a water outage after the electrical outage caused the Woodlands Reservoir tower to become dry since January 22.

“A main feeder cable is damaged, and we currently have 36 substations affected. Unfortunately, this outage has affected the pumps at the reservoir, so areas supplied by the Woodlands reservoirs have run dry,” added Hegter.

Updates to follow.
