Further delays in collection of refuse

Due to a number of reasons, Durban Solid Waste is experiencing delays, and residents are urged to be mindful of how they dispose of their refuse.

WHILE refuse collection still remains problematic in a number of areas, Ward 64 councillor Gavin Hegter says he is aware of the delays in the collection of refuse and was continuously putting pressure on management to resolve the ongoing issues.

“Unfortunately, Durban Solid Waste is still experiencing delays in the collections of refuse in a number of areas. These delays are due to a number of reasons, including a shortage of drivers and a shortage of trucks due to continuous breakdowns because of the age of the fleet.

“Another problem is that the transfer stations’ compactors at both Clairwood and Chatsworth are not working. This results in major delays as the collection trucks have to travel to Illovo landfill to offload,” Hegter said.

Residents are urged to be mindful of how they dispose of household and garden refuse during delays in collection.
