Residents’ swift response curbs illegal dumping in stormwater drain

The community members who spotted the driver of a tanker discharging effluent into the stormwater system in Montclair alerted the police.

THE driver of a tanker was slapped with a R5 000 fine after he was caught illegally dumping effluent into a stormwater drain, at the corner of Montclair Road and Lowestoft Avenue in Montclair, earlier today.

This followed the swift response of community members who spotted a ‘suspicious’ tanker in the area.

“Thanks to an alert resident, the two workers were caught discharging effluent into our stormwater system. Metro police attended and issued fines of R5 000 to the driver.

“The eThekwini Pollution Control also arrived at the scene and will be investigating the matter,” he said.
