Men sentenced for Wentworth shooting

It is alleged the accused directly fired at two teenagers, a 13-year-old and an 18-year-old.

TWO Wentworth men, aged 19 and 26, were sentenced for attempted murder at the Durban Magistrate’s Court.
According to communications officer of the Wentworth police station, Captain Mbuso Gumede, the first accused was sentenced to eight years imprisonment, while the second was sentenced to 12 years imprisonment. Both accused were deemed unfit to possess firearms.

“The crimes were committed in July 2020, where both accused fired random gunshots while walking in between a block of flats in Hime Street, at about 20:15.

“It is alleged the accused directly fired at two teenagers, a 13-year-old and an 18-year-old, fortunately the bullets missed them and nobody was injured. Damage was caused to vehicles parked in the vicinity. Both accused were known by the complainants and witnesses,” said Gumede.

Station commander of the Wentworth police station, Colonel Sinayo Mtshali, commended Cele for securing both accused convictions using excellent investigative skills, and through commitment and dedication to his work.
