Spruce up your verge with indigenous plants

The Yellowwood Conservancy will be judging all entries within our area and awarding a prize to the person who makes use of indigenous plants to beautify their verges.

RESIDENTS are encouraged to spruce up their verges up and enter the eThekwini Municipality’s annual verge competition, which will be opened until September 30.

YELLOWWOOD Conservancy chairman and ward 64, councillor Gavin Hegter, said residents should use the opportunity to beautify their verges and set the tone for a sprightly community.

“We are glad that the municipality has reintroduced the verge competition. In line with this, the Yellowwood Conservancy will be judging all entries within our area and awarding a prize to the person who makes use of indigenous plants to beautify their verges. Exciting prizes up for grabs. If you have a well-maintained verge with an aesthetic appeal, this competition is for you,” said Hegter.

The competition, hosted by the city’s Department of Parks, Recreation and Culture, aims to encourage eThekwini residents to beautify and maintain their verges, while also installing a sense of civic pride.
Entry forms are available on the municipal website, Sizakala Centres and libraries.
