Mommy Moments: Counting down to trimester 3

Caxton News journalist, Candyce Krishna, shares highlights from the first and second trimesters of her pregnancy.

AT 25 weeks pregnant, I’m slowly beginning to feel that energy I so loved in my second trimester diminishing.

“Please, God,” I say to myself. “Can I at least keep the pregnancy glow for just a little while longer?” Also the boobs and my hair, which hasn’t been this thick and shiny for years. Sigh. Only time will tell.

In January, this year, I found out I was pregnant. There was no denial, shock or doubt. Having gone through it twice before, I could not ignore the signs that my body was giving me.

My boyfriend and I… Sorry, I mean, my husband and I – man, I gotta get used to calling this dude my husband – we got married about two weeks ago – took a test to confirm it, and after we kissed and almost squeezed each other to death in an embrace, the planning for the arrival of our little munchkin began.

It’s been 14 years since my last pregnancy, so I pretty much forgot many things. Also, a lot has changed, but the internet and social media influencers keep me updated and educated.

My first trimester had me exhausted and packing on the kilos like it was no man’s business. I didn’t have morning sickness, but the nausea was something else. I gagged at almost every meat dish I cooked.

Some days, I couldn’t stomach meat or chicken, then all of a sudden, I loved it. And then it made me sick again. This love-hate relationship continued into my second trimester when I started liking red meat, fruit and milk – three types of food that I never cared much about prior to being pregnant. Weird, hey?

Now, I’m going through an egg phase. Who knows what’s next?

My pregnancy thus far has had tons of memorable moments – from the time we took our first pregnancy test, to the baby shopping and finding out we’re having a girl, to feeling her shake, rattle and roll in my uterus – it’s been magical.

There are also times when I have no energy and wish I could sleep for days, and days when I’m so hungry I could eat a horse.

Then there are times I really wish hubby could carry our baby for just a day or so, so I can have my normal body back.

But mostly, I wish I could just cough or sneeze without weeing in my pants a little.

Whoever invented panty liners, I owe you one!

Every single day, however, I’m in awe of what my body is capable of doing and how it’s been created to carry and bring life into the world. I see it adapting and growing to make way for this precious little bundle that’s on her way, and man, is she a true miracle.

I’m also chuffed that I see no stretch marks, and I hope it stays that way!

Catch up with me next week to read about my last gynae visit.
