FOOD for Life Merebank joined forces with the Merebank Residents Association, to unite against and eradicate hunger by distributing meals to residents from a new distribution point in Dibrugarth Road in Merebank.

The Merebank Residents Association’s members, Yusuf Vawda and Raven Naidoo, said the organisation was grateful to Paul Pillay, who was instrumental in arranging the meals, which residents can fetch for free between 10:30 and 12:00 every Wednesday from 67 Dibrugarth Road.

Food for Life Merebank was formed in 2015 and is one of 30 branches in South Africa and is affiliated to Food for Life global. The organisation is the largest vegan and vegetarian distributor of cooked meals in the world distributing a plate of food every two seconds.

Pillay said the Merebank branch distributed over two million meals during the Covid-19 pandemic, with meals averaging on 6 000 daily. “We are currently distributing about 7 000 meals weekly in the Merebank and surrounding areas. We are trying to achieve a hunger free zone within a 10km radius of our kitchen.
