Thief nabbed by residents

A group of residents chased and apprehended a thief, who allegedly robbed a man and also tried to stab him, at about 18:50 on Tuesday, March 1. Communications officer of the Montclair SAPS, Captain Derek Vijiam, said the victim was walking on Anleno Road in Montclair, when a white Datsun, travelling on the same road, stopped next to him. “The occupant of the vehicle pulled up and opened an okapi knife, placing it on the victim. The suspect demanded the victim’s cell phone. The victim made an attempt to escape but fell to the ground. The suspect attempt to stab the terrified victim, who threw the cell phone away. The suspect picked up the cell phone and made an attempt to get-away on foot. He was chased by a group of residents who caught him and handed him over to the police with the recovered cell phone. The suspect, Sphelele Mkhungo, was arrested and charged,” he said.

Arrests imminent in assault case Police say arrests will be made soon regarding a case of assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm. “On Friday, February 25, at about 17:30, the victim was on Wren Way, in Yellowwood Park, proceeding to his place of employment, when he was approached by two suspects known to him. One of the suspects grabbed hold of his neck from the rear. He was assaulted by both suspects with booted feet and clenched fists. He was also assaulted with a plate which resulted in the victim having an open wound below his right eye. Arrests are imminent,” said Vijiam.

Manager assaults business owner The victim was at her business premises on Benson Road in Montclair and, while engaging with her manager, a disagreement ensued on Thursday, February 24, at about 11:00. “The quarrel got to such a point that the manager assaulted the victim. The police are investigating a case of assault,” said Vijiam.

Truck stolen from business A brazen truck thief drove the truck he stole through the gates of the business property in Clairwood on the night of Tuesday, March 1. “The suspect drove the truck, which was stocked with plasticware and parked at the business premises on Soupen Road, through the gate to get-away. The area was securely locked. It is alleged that during the early hours of the morning, an unknown suspect got onto the property and into the truck. The suspect drove the truck through the locked gate,” he said.

Couple robbed for vehicle, left stranded A man, who was travelling in his Toyota Tazz with his wife, along South Coast Road in a northerly direction from Mega City, was robbed of his vehicle, on Wednesday, March 2, at about 19:30. “While he was stationary at the robots at the N2, near the Engen Garage in Mobeni, two unknown men armed with firearms, alighted their vehicles and pointed the firearms at the victim and his wife. They were instructed to jump out of their vehicle. The suspects got in and drove in the direction of Umlazi. Leaving the victims stranded,” said Vijiam.
