Wentworth Bowling Club men proceed to knockout rounds of Port Natal Bowls trips

The club hosts an cupcakes for children with cancer fundraiser this weekend.

DESPITE the heat, the members of Wentworth Bowling Club (WBC) filled the greens last weekend, fulfilling their requirements in the posted club competitions.

The women kicked off the year with their drawn fours competition which is being played in a round robin format. The men’s open singles championship has whittled down to the two finalists – Troy Garland and Matthew Lassak.

The members look forward to the posting of this game and anticipate a monumental clash between the men, both who are part of the elite group of Port Natal novice singles champions.

The men’s nominated trips championship has five teams left in contention and games have been posted for Saturday, February 26, at 09:00. The Wentworth trips team comprising Wayne Smith, Matt Lassak and Denzil Lewis, will travel to Parkhill Bowling Club to continue their quest in the knockout rounds of the Port Natal men’s trips competition.

This week offers bowlers opportunities to play for reward in the spider’s breakfast trips competition on Thursday, February 24. Breakfast is served at 08:00 and play starts at 09:00. On Friday morning, February 25, the Tomasina men’s casual bowlers will take to the greens to play for honours and at 09:00 on Sunday, February 27, the competitors in the Big Jim pairs competition will do battle for prize money.

On Saturday the club and the green café will hold a cupcakes for children with cancer drive. The community is invited to visit the club between 10:00 and 14:00 and purchase six cupcakes for R60 (larger donations will be welcome).

Every purchaser will receive a free cup of tea or coffee. Businesses on the Bluff are challenged to use the opportunity to support the drive for children with cancer by getting their staff involved.
