Bluff grandmother celebrates 100th birthday

There was much food and drink on the day to spoil the birthday girl, Anna Gouws.

A CENTURY.

This is the number of birthdays a Bluff resident has had. Anna Gouws celebrated her 100th birthday with family and friends on Wednesday, February 2.

A party was held at the Dutch Reformed Church with much food and drink to spoil the birthday girl. Anna has two children, three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Anna’s daughter, Estelle Hurter, said apart from being a bit confused from time to time, her mother is still amazing.

“She’s lived on the Bluff all her life. About two years ago, we realised it was time for frail care for her. She’s been very happy at 7th Heaven Home for the Aged, they take good care of all the elderly. I can only give compliments to the staff at the home,” she said.

Granddaughter, Celeste Lamb said, “She is still as very wise as she’s always been. She is someone who always had a sixth sense, if she would tell you something about anything, her words always came true. She is still strict about bad table manners. She loves crystals and fine China tea sets.”

Founder of the home for the aged, Shirley Prinsloo, said Anna is a great inspiration to all the residents at the home. “We love her to bits,” she said.
