Police seek deceased man’s family

Detectives have opened an inquest case and are investigating.

POLICE in Wentworth urge informal settlement dwellers to keep a contact list with details of their next of kin. This comes after a man was found hanging in his room on Buldana Road in Merewent on Wednesday, January 26. According to the police, the man found is African, about 40 years old and stayed on his own.

“The police were summoned to the scene whereupon arrival, the informant reported to them that a male had been found hanging.

“The police detectives and vis-pol officers then called medical personnel who satisfied that the man was already dead. A government mortuary van arrived and transported the deceased to the Pinetown government mortuary,” said Wentworth police’s spokesperson, Captain Mbuso Gumede.

He added that the police are trying to trace the relatives of the deceased and that an inquest case is investigated by detectives.

“We urge community members who live in these places to keep records of their relatives with contact details. This will make it easy for the police to trace the relatives should cases of this nature occur,” he said.
