The Makro 'choir' sang and danced as the store re-opened after months of closure due to the unrest and looting in the province.

THE Springfield Makro re-opened today, Monday, December 13, amid fanfare as its staff sang and danced ahead of the ribbon cutting ceremony.

Shoppers had already begun to queue at 07:00 ahead of the stores 08:00 opening.

“We’ve all learnt from what happened in July. We have engaged with the community, policing forums, South African Police Services and other stakeholders. We know that there is a huge sense of remorse. We have received an outpouring of support and assistance. This re-opening means as much to the community as it does to us,” said Jones.

“We don’t want to focus on the unfortunate events that brought us to this point,” added Cumings.
