NPO calls for donations to spread festive cheer

The home relies on fundraising to cover running costs.

AS the festive season draws near, the Aryan Benevolent Home (ABH) is calling on the community to spread some festive cheer by donating much-needed items for its residents.

The home is collecting toiletries, stationery, textbooks, school uniforms, meal donations, groceries, new clothing and new shoes.

Naren Pattundeen, the ABH CEO, said they are a 100-year-old national non-profit organisation that offers care and shelter to the elderly, children, non-ambulant and victims of domestic violence.

“The ABH cares for 726 people and our home’s operational expenses amount to R50.3m. The cost of salaries is R28.5m; this makes up 56 % of our expenses. Our pension/subsidy from our residents is R26.5m, this amount doesn’t even cover our salaries,” he said.

Pattundeen said while 50% of their funding is subsidised by the state, the balance is raised through fundraising initiatives.

“The coronavirus led to the cancellation of all of our physical fundraisers, which included the ABH Chatsworth Fair, one of our biggest sources of income,” he said.

Donations can be dropped off at the ABH headquarters at 80 Arena Park Drive in Chatsworth. ABH is a registered public benefit organisation (PBO) and donations are tax-deductible. Call ABH on 031 404 9523.
