Bluff community encouraged to take ownership of the area

WARD 66 councillor, Zoe Solomon together with several community members, rolled up their sleeves to tackle the dumping and litter outside the Tara Road Garden Refuse Site on Thursday, November 11.

“The initiative was all about taking ownership of our suburb by getting the community involved in cleaning up the precinct around the dumpsite. I’m hoping this will be an ongoing effort that will be supported by local businesses. Verge cutting has also resumed after being unmaintained for 18 months. The schedule will run over five weeks.

“We are also in the process of launching an association called Beautify the Bluff which will be made up of interested and like-minded people who don’t mind going the extra mile to uplift the area through grass cutting, the planting of flowers as well as keeping the area clean.

“Many people often question why they need to take part in such projects when they pay rates. I agree and I will represent them by pursuing matters such as verge cutting, pothole filling and faulty streetlights. But when it comes to beautifying the area, we know that this is lacking, so that is why I want to get likeminded people together to contribute towards the success of this project,” said Solomon who was disappointed by the lack of attendance at the recent municipal Bluff precinct plan meeting to discuss suggestions and concerns towards developing the areas around the Gray’s Inn and Tara roads.

“It is disheartening but the city will go ahead with processes regardless,” she said.

The planned interactions with the community will continue until the first quarter of 2022 when the plan will be completed.
