Great golf win for ‘Little Easy’

A young golfer is rising up to become the next ‘big easy.’

Janco Vogel won the SA Kids Junior Africa Challenge played from 26 to 30 August. “I am very happy to have won,” said Janco.

At the end of the first day’s play, Janco was six shots behind the leader. On day two he ended six shots in front. “I just concentrated hard on day three, that’s how I won the tournament,” said Janco. He won the tournament by three shots with a score of 77.

The 12-year-old Port Natal pupil has been coached by David Graham for the past two years. “Janco’s work ethic on the golf course is great. He is very relaxed on course. The other children call him the ‘little easy,’ said David.

In May, Janco competed in his first overseas golf tournament in Scotland. “It was great playing on a links course for the first time. But I had more experience going into the Africa Challenge. I was under a lot of pressure over the three days of the Africa Challenge. I pushed myself all the way,” said Janco.

This young talent’s future looks bright. “Janco will be a good player on tour, he will definitely be in the professional ranks. Winning the Africa Challenge is a good stepping stone for him,” said David.

Janco’s parents support him all the way with his golf. “If it wasn’t for my parents, I wouldn’t be able to compete,” said Janco.

He hopes to win the World Championships in North Carolina next August. Watch out senior tour, there’s a star on the rise.
