Learner makes strides in athletics

Bluff Christian Academy's Grade 7 learner, Kealyn Pottier, is enjoying the challenge of running.

IF you’ve got it, you’ve got it and Bluff Christian Academy’s Kealyn Pottier, certainly does!

The Grade 7 learner is making strides as an athlete with a promising future as a runner.

“I decided to start running as soccer was prohibited with the Covid-19 regulations. I thought I would increase my fitness levels for when the soccer season would commence. I, therefore, joined the 100-mile club at school a bit later than when it initially started,” he said.

The young athlete expressed how much he enjoyed the challenge of improving his fitness. In the process, the competition of challenging high school boys to gain the edge and to see who can reach the most laps by the end of the term.

“Starting from behind was not easy, but I made it my goal to catch up and end the term with the most laps overall. As I covered a total distance of just more than 36km for term one. I discovered I was quite good at running as I started learning how to control my pace with stamina,” he added.

The learner has taken on the initiative to join Harlequin Harriers every Wednesday evening for their time trials, as he wants to improve his run and compete with his time over 4.6km every week.

He started off at 29 minutes and has recently progressed to a personal best of 23 minutes for the time trial.

He has taken sound advice and guidance from experienced seasonal runners to improve his run and enjoys his progress this far as he strives towards setting a new personal best.
