Wentworth police rally community against GBV

Wentworth police conducted a gender-based violence (GBV) campaign at Merebank Shopping Centre recently.

WENTWORTH police’s social crime prevention unit and communications members conducted a gender-based violence (GBV) campaign at Merebank Shopping Centre recently.

As part of the initiative, information pamphlets on GBV, second-hand goods, child safety and illegal firearms were distributed to the shoppers. Vehicle checkpoints were also done along Austerville Drive and Quality Street.

Members also got the opportunity to interact with the community by supplying them with the necessary information and highlighting that GBV happens 365 days a year and should not be cast in the spotlight during 16 Days of Activism.

“Cases of this nature must be reported at the police station and actions will be taken against the perpetrators of violence. One can also report on behalf of another person if you know of or have seen someone who is a victim of abuse. Vulnerable people in our community should be assisted by reporting on their behalf,” said Wentworth police communications officer, Captain Mbuso Gumede.

Report illegal offence to the Crime Stop Line on 0860010111 or call Wentworth SAPS on 031-4516240/6241/6242.
