A 55-year-old woman was arrested by members of eThekwini District Crime Prevention who were deployed in the Wentworth area recently.
Officers secured the arrest after receiving information on the woman who was brewing homemade beer. The officers proceeded to the premises in Wentworth and on their arrival noticed eight 20 litre containers and seven 2 litre plastic containers filled with homemade beer. The containers were outside the house and officers questioned the accused.
“She was arrested and later released on a fine. The accused will appear in the Wentworth Court on Wednesday, 24 February,” said Wentworth SAPS spokesperson, Captain Mbuso Gumede.
“The community is being warned that selling and consuming alcohol during this level three of the Disaster Management Act is still an offence. The regulations of the act clearly states that selling/dealing in liquor is prohibited. Anyone found in contravention of the act or regulations will be arrested and charged.
“Failing to wear masks in any public space is also an offence. A stipulated fine will have to be paid before release or an accused person will have to appear in court. Wentworth SAPS urges the community to wear masks at all times,” added Gumede.
