The festive season was once again a busy time for the SPCA.

The festive season was once again a busy time for the SPCA.

During the period from 24 December to 2 January, the Durban and Coast SPCA saw over 400 stray and unwanted cats, kittens, puppies and dogs being admitted.  Of this 34 per cent of animals were surrendered as unwanted pets, with 66 per cent being strays. Of the 66 per cent, only six animals have been claimed by their owners. Others are still waiting for their owners or are waiting for new homes.

“If you have lost your pet please visit us to check if your pet is here or call the kennels department during office hours (Monday to Friday 8am – 4pm and Saturday 8am – 12.30pm) to complete a lost pet report on 031-579-6524/6. Ensure your pets are microchipped as this is the best and easiest way for them to get back to you in the event that they get lost. You can book with the SPCA to have your pet’s microchipped.

No fireworks related injuries were reported, however, there was one rescue. Should you wish to adopt an animal, call the SPCA’s kennels department and make an appointment on 031-579-6524.
