Men arrested in Wentworth for attempted murder

The arrested suspects are expected to appear in the Durban Magistrate's Court today.

THREE men were arrested on Friday night, 21 August in Wentworth in connection with attempted murder and pointing of a firearm. The arrests were part of an operation conducted by the eThekwini District Task Team where police officers arrested the three men aged between 17 and 30. 

“On Thursday, 20 August at 6.45pm, a 35-year-old man allegedly had a firearm pointed at him and vehicle was rammed by two men on Raj Mahal Road in Wentworth. The suspects fled the scene and the victim was taken to hospital for medical attention. A case of attempted murder was opened at the Wentworth police station for investigation. Two men, aged 17 and 21, were arrested and police recovered a gas gun from the suspects,” said provincial spokesperson, Colonel Thembeka Mbhele.

She said officers proceeded to Wiest Street in Jacobs where they arrested a 30-year-old man for an incident that occurred on Wednesday, 19 August. “It is alleged that at 7.25pm, a 35-year-old man was walking on Alabama Road in Jacobs while on his way home when he came across three men who blocked his way, assaulted him and pointed a firearm at him. A case of pointing of firearm was opened at Wentworth police station for investigation. Police worked vigorously to arrest the suspects to maintain peace and harmony in the area. The 17-year-old suspect was released into the custody of his parents,” said Colonel Mbhele.

The arrested suspects are expected to appear in the Durban Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 24 August for charges of attempted murder and pointing of a firearm. The provincial commissioner, Lieutenant-General Khombinkosi Jula commended the police officers for the arrests.
