SDCEA airs concern over pollution power

CALLING all concerned South Durbanites, the South Durban Community Environmental Alliance (SDCEA) will hear your concerns about electricity and pollution at public meetings on Tuesday and Wednesday, 27 and 28 August.

Problems like load shedding, fires, explosions, gasses, toxic smells and ill health have plagued the local communities for years. According to the SDCEA, at the forefront of these problems is the polluting companies’ attitude to reducing the emissions they dump on their unsuspecting neighbours.

The SDCA hopes these meetings will signify a positive step towards addressing some of these concerns.

The primary focus on the first day will be on electricity tariffs; alternative energy; solar power geyser installation and smart electricity plans. On the second day, emphasis will be on pollution and health-related issues that affect people living alongside polluting industries.

The meetings will be held in the Austerville community hall in Wentworth from 9.30am to 1pm on both days. For details call Bongani Mthembu or Thando Mbeje on 031-461-1991.
