Covid-19 screenings underway in Ward 64

Ward 64 councillor, Gavin Hegter, has stressed the importance of remaining calm and compliant during this period.

COVID-19 door-to-door screenings are underway within Ward 64. The outreach project, initiated by the Department of Health, commenced yesterday (28 April) and will continue until Thursday, 30 April in the Montclair, Yellowwood Park and Woodlands areas.

Ward 64 councillor, Gavin Hegter, addressed the health workers and field teams before heading out into their assigned areas in the community. The growing queue of patients at the mobile clinic at Montclair Mall alone demonstrated residents’ desire to be part of the solution in the battle against the Covid-19 outbreak.

He has also stressed the importance of remaining calm and compliant during this period.  “These teams are clearly identifiable and will be accompanied by SAPS. The health department are at Montclair Mall conducting testing. They are also doing door-to-door visits in randomly selected roads. Please be aware of the following; the test is not invasive, it is just a nasal swab. The test is not compulsory but if you screen as high risk they can take measures to conduct a test. It is in the interest of you and your family to be tested. And lastly the teams do not have to enter your home and are happy to test you outside,” said Hegter.
