Bluff shottist on target for national contest

AIMING for glory is the Bluff’s Daniel Visser, who was recently awarded his KZN colours for target shooting.

The KZN target shooting trials held from Thursday to Sunday, 8 to 11 August in the Drakensberg proved to be a great start to the 15-year-old’s shooting career, rewarding him with a gold medal for kneeling and bronze medal for prone position.

Daniel took up the sport only eight weeks ago after watching his brother compete. “It looked like fun, so I decided to give it a go.” He now forms part of the KZN U16A team that will compete in the SA schools competition later in the year.

The Grade 9 Glenwood pupil practises one hour every day and is an avid cricket player and a medalled swimmer. All his sporting activity has not impeded his studying, however and he maintains an aggregate above 75%.

His proud family have supported his rather expensive sporting choice and are looking for sponsors to help him fulfil his goal of competing for South Africa in the future. “I hope to represent my country and make everyone proud. I also plan to open my own sports centre when I am older, catering for as many sports disciplines as possible, so other people can have the same opportunities as I have had.”

For now, he is excited to be competing in a competition with his brother later this month and then on to the SA schools competition, where he aims to win his SA colours.
