Mixed bag of results in Wentworth Bowling Club’s men’s league

Wentworth’s five round twilight trips competition kicks off on Friday, 13 March, and members are asked to invite teams to participate.

The women’s pair from Amanzimtoti Bowling Club, Julie Sutherland and Amanda Ninow, who regularly support Wentworth Bowling Club’s monthly midweek Grand Rapid Spur any pairs competition, once again stamped their authority on the field to take home the first prize.

Norman Webster and Moses Nuba finished the morning in second spot and Colin Howes and Eileen du Plessis secured the second session prize.

The breakfast trips saw Chad Wilson, Phil Hill and Clint Duncan build up a healthy plus 25 to end the morning as leaders, seven shots ahead of Grahan Bransby, Brian Smith and Norman Webster. Mike Hough, Barry Smith and Gary Lelong did enough in the second session to get their hands on that prize.

Thursday evening’s twilight bowls and club draws was a second in a row for Gees Dennis when his number was pulled from the joker box. In his second attempt to find the joker card, Gees turned the six of spades, giving him the consolation R50 and taking the next pool up to R2 312.

In an evening where repeat performances were the order of the night, Stevie Baker’s number was pulled for the attendance draw and once again, he was not at the club to collect his prize money making the next attendance draw R200.

The men’s league games on Saturday, 29 February, presented a mixed bag of results with only the B side winning both their games. Hopefully, this win will keep them in the top spot in their section.

Sunday’s women’s four’s games went to the wire, with both semi-finals leaving spectators glued to their seats until the last end and leaving two teams still standing to play in the final on Saturday, 7 March. Jay Retief, Gwen Tait, Kitty Schaefer and La Raine Smith will face off against Vicky Williams, Cheryl Waterman, Sonya Kock and Belinda Lassak in what promises to be another close encounter.

The first round of the club’s Grace Hare mixed trips competition has been posted for Saturday, 14 March, so members who have not yet entered their teams should do so.

Members are reminded to contribute to the refurbishment fund, the list is on the notice board in the bar area.

The members of Wentworth Bowling Club convey their heartfelt congratulations to Bluff Bowling Club’s Bridget White on her well deserved success in the Port Natal open singles championship.

Her champion status proves that hard work and consistent practice accomplish great things.
