Bluff ratepayers address concerns

Bluff Ratepayers Association (BRA) report for October.

Bluff Ratepayers Association (BRA) report for October.

• Bluff Road safety concerns

In August the BRA wrote to the Traffic and Roads Department concerning the excessive speeding of traffic between Hartlepool and Peacehaven Place on Bluff Road. The department has stated that there is insufficient road reserve to accommodate a traffic circle.

• Illegal car wash

BRA chairman, Ivor Aylward, undertook to address the issue of an illegal car wash in Stableford Road. As a result of business at the car wash, there was an increased traffic flow in Stableford and Viewforth Roads which was disruptive to the neighbourhood.

• Trucking in Tara and Lighthouse Roads

Objections have been lodged with Engen and Sapref regarding the excessive fuel truck traffic in Tara and Lighthouse Roads. Aylward had asked the refineries to explain the reason for it. No response was received from the refineries.

• The state of the ‘oasis’ park

One year since the front page news in the SUN announcing the establishment of a water feature park adjacent to the Bluff show grounds, termed an ‘oasis’ by its major proponent, councillor JP Prinsloo, all that had been achieved is an ‘ecological disaster,’ according to an independent ecologist which the BRA has consulted.

The BRA has noted the absence of budget funding for the ‘oasis’ and wants to see those responsible for this fiasco held to account.

• King Fisher Park

Aylward expressed disappointment and frustration at the failure of the municipality to formalise his Adopt-a-Spot application to manage King Fisher Park.

• Sodurba

Aylward expressed concern at the reluctance of the tourism body, Sodurba, to divulge details of its finances. The BRA had consulted higher authorities within the municipality.

The final BRA meeting for the year will be held on Thursday, 28 November.
