New Forest beats Curro Hillcrest in fiery basketball matches

With combinations of skills and talent, spectators were in for a treat at all three nail-biting games.

THREE basketball games were played at New Forest High School against visitors Curro Hillcrest on Thursday, 17 October. It was clear from the beginning that all the teams were in it to win it, with thick tension from either teams, spectators were in for a treat for all three nail-biting games.

Spectators were glued to the game from start to finish as the first teams pushed each other to their ultimate limits, with either side wanting to claim victory for themselves. In the end, however, the New Forest proved they wanted the win badly with the final score being 28-21 in favour of the home team. “New forest held better possession of the ball in the game, with Siyanda Gumbi, Mpilo Mazibuko, Siseko Vato, Bilal Johnson and Sandile Qwabe playing very well,” said team manager and educator at New Forest, Wesley Ramcharan.

The U15 game was just as fiery as the boys came out guns blazing with their eyes on the ball and minds on the prize. New Forest once again proved that hospitality was far from their intentions when they yet again beat their Hillcrest visitors 18-11 in favour of the Montclair based school. “It was a challenging match with both teams playing to their best. It was a team effort so no player should be singled out for special praise,” Wesley added.

Curro bounced back in the U14 game with the added advantage of having game lead from the start, the opposing team had a tough time on the court. By the final whistle, New Forest suffered a humbling loss of 18-6 in favour of the visitors.
